Commiphora Myrrha Extract description

_Commiphora myrrha_ extract, more commonly known as myrrh, is the resin from a type of tree common to parts of Africa, Arabia, and India. Its distinct fragrance has been used as a basis for perfumes for centuries and it is a component of many traditional remedies in the regions where it’s found. While there is evidence that myrrh can have antimicrobial properties, part of the reason it is effective in this way is because it has components that are cytotoxic – meaning they are harmful to living cells. Research also finds that myrrh contains compounds that lead to symptoms of skin sensitization, including redness, itching and mild swelling. It’s also been noted that while this might not be skin’s initial response to myrrh exposure, over time it becomes more and more apparent. Our advice? Stick to myrrh in your perfumes but avoid it when it comes to skin care and makeup products!
